Collier Equine Vet Services
-
In addition to the full line
of standard equine veterinary services,
we also offer specialized treatment, laser surgery,
care & diagnostic services.

~ Colostrum Bank
If a mare is not
producing enough colostrum ("first milk") in the first 24 to
48 hours
of
her foal's life, the foal does not
receive adequate nutrition
and immunity from disease.
Fresh colostrum from an outside source can protect
the newborn's health, improve
resistanceto disease, and improve the
foal's overall chances for survival. When the
mare's production
of colostrum is insufficient, fresh supplies are available from our colostrum
bank.

Hip, shoulder & neck X-rays
Our hospital is equiped with a special X-ray
machine. The X-ray is performed
while the horse
is lying on its side, which both reduces the horse's discomfort and
improves the
diagnostic
quality of the X-ray.
~ EPM Testing
Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) is
a neurologic disease for
which there is no
vaccine. It affects the brain, brain stem and spinal cord
of horses,
causing asymmetric ataxia, weakness and spasticity.
Early signs of this disease
are stumbling,
weakness in a limb,
muscle atrophy, dropping lip, falling,
head shaking or unusual hoof
placement.
It can eventually lead to lameless,
one-sided blindness, marking incoordination,
inability to chew, toe dragging,
seizures and paralysis.
EPM can be treated and horses
can be restored to
normal vigor and activity,
but diagnosis of the disease requires
collection of
cerebrospinal fluid ("spinal tap").
This procedure is available at our
hospital.

Breeding
We offer a complete breeding program at our facility. We provide live
cover
facilities and cooled as well as frozen semen for Artificial Insemination.
We also
provide 24 hrs. neonatal and mare care services.
~
Portable Ultrasound
The number of growing embryos in a mare in foal can be determined
by evaluating
an
ultrasound. Multiple embryos can be detected
as early as 18 days after
conception and
embryo reduction can be performed
to ensure the health
of the remaining foal.

28-stall Hospital
This modern facility is capable of housing all
types of ill and injured horses.
In addition to the
medical facilities and 28-stall barn, we have acres of
pastures for exercise and
grazing.
Smaller paddocks for animal requiring
restricted movement.
~
In-clinic Lab
Blood work and tissue cultures are quickly performed in our laboratory.
Standard lab test
are performed at our facility to improve our ability
to respond to the horse's
needs as quickly
as possible.
~
Farrier consultation and on-site Farrier
We are strong believers in working with the
horse's farrier when hoof, foot
and leg problems
arise. Recommendations for corrective trimming and/or
shoeing enable the farrier to improve
the horse's foot and leg condition.
~ Portable Equipment
On addition to the ultrasound, we offer a
portable endoscope for throat and
esophageal
examination and 3 portable X-ray machines for animals
requiring a standard
X-ray.
